Recent Past…
After months of lock-downs and the isolation of the COVID pandemic, Phillips set a goal of releasing a new song every month. Nomadica's first single went live in November 2020 and Victor kept the music coming with a new song releasing around the final Friday of the month until 2022.
In December 2020 Philadelphia WXPN radio on air personality DJ Robert Drake "fell in love with" Nomadica's newly released version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and played it both on air and on Jingle Jams, the stations' streaming holiday music channel.
Musical beginnings...
Raised in a family that surrounded themselves with music, Victor began his musical journey singing to entertain himself as a toddler, later learning piano and clarinet. After teaching himself acoustic guitar around age 14, Victor quickly realized bass guitar was the instrument for him. Since then, he has continued to practice playing and absorbing music and deepening his understanding of its emotional power.
For Phillips playing and creating music naturally lead to a curiosity for how to capture sound and help artists create records. After college, following his growing passion for recording and audio engineering, he moved from the West Coast to New York City and completed an audio engineering course in 2001. Since then, Victor has been on a journey to build audio engineering skills and find his creative voice and musical style as a producer. “It’s obviously going to be a life long journey because the more you learn, the more you realize how much more you need to learn!” says Victor.
His path so far has included a detour out of music into a 12 year retail business venture; through a divorce; into mindfulness, yoga and lots of personal growth and life lessons. During this period he took a hiatus from playing music, and although he wasn’t creating or playing bass, music was his constant companion, helping to transport him through every day and every challenge…
“One of the ‘side affects’ of any spiritual practice that awakens our higher self, is getting in touch with your true calling or higher purpose”, says Victor. In 2014 he embarked on a path of original music composition and instrumental exploration that over the next 2-3 years evolved into his first solo music project, Costal Dynamic. He released his first 2 singles in 2016 and began work on a larger body of songs that evolved into his 2018 album entitled “Lost Tribe”.
The future…
When asked about the future he sees for Nomadica and his engineering and producing work, Victor can’t help paraphrasing Tom Petty… “It’s wide open!”, he says with a huge grin. After a moments pause he adds, “But seriously I want to help as many artists as possible birth the music they hear, while continuing to create my own music and play it live - maybe even with a full band on tour… especially on the festival circuit!”
